Congratulations on being accepted to Moody Bible Institute! The checklist* below is designed to help you prepare for your arrival in Chicago. It will outline steps that must be taken before you arrive, point out additional options, and tell you what to expect when you arrive for new student orientation. Orientation Updates

New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation will be from August 10-15, 2020. Moody is continuing to monitor local, state and national guidelines for health and safety. As we approach orientation, we will send you any necessary updates to our schedule or procedures based on recommendations for your wellbeing.

Orientation is a graduation requirement for all undergraduate students. Since we believe that Orientation is a valuable tool for success in your first semester at Moody Chicago; it is expected that you will rearrange your schedule as needed to attend the entire orientation. Please do not plan work or other responsibilities during these dates until you know the schedule of required sessions.

Though there is a lot of information being sent, the most important thing to remember is that you can always click here to visit the New Student Webpage to view the most current information and checklist deadlines. (PRO TIP: If your parents/family/friends are involved in your college planning process, you can forward this email to them right now! They will thank you!)

Chicago Orientation & Move-In Details

Dear New Students,

We are looking forward to you being a part of our study body this Fall! Though things will look a little different than usual due to the requirement of social distancing and use of masks throughout public spaces around campus; Moody is committed to providing an environment that promotes holistic education and community.

Moody has been monitoring the guidance about COVID-19 from the Center for Disease Control (CDC); as well as Illinois and Chicago specific regulations over the past month. We have adjusted the plan for Orientation and Move-In (for residential students) to limit large group gatherings and to reduce density during the move-in process.

Here are the important points you need to know:

  • Orientation Sessions will be offered though a mixture of pre-recorded videos, Zoom Sessions and in person small group gatherings from August 10-15. More specific information about the schedule will be sent in a future email. (The in-person gatherings will be on August 14-15).
  • New Students who are living on campus will be invited to move in August 10-13. (International Students are asked to arrive on August 10). Monday, June 22 at Noon(CST), all residential students will receive a link to sign up for a three-hour move-in time (either 8-11am or 12-3pm). Please limit the number of guests who help you move-in to two. Meal plans will begin upon move-in without any additional costs.

  • Let your family know that we will be hosting a Parent & Family Orientation via Zoom at the end of July! There will be plenty of time for questions and answers. More information will be sent out via email and also posted to the Parent Association Facebook Page. Encourage your family to follow us on Social Media!

Move-In Sign-Up Form

Last week you received an email from Rachel Puente regarding new student move-in. Below you will find the new student move-in sign up form. You are receiving this email because you currently have an on-campus housing assignment for the fall semester. 

You are invited to move in August 10-13. (International Students are asked to arrive on August 10). Please Click Here to sign up for a three-hour move-in time (either 8-11 AM or 12-3 PM). Please limit the number of guests who help you move-in to two. Meal plans will begin upon move-in without any additional costs.

If you are in an overflow space (OF-#), you may still fill out this form. We are working hard to ensure you have a space upon your arrival. Once you are housed, our Housing office will send you a confirmation email immediately.

Set up Email Account

Shortly after you pay your matriculation deposit, you will receive an email to your personal email address with information regarding your Moody login and email address. Go to outlook.office365.com and log in with your username@moody.edu and your given Moody password. 

All future communication will be sent there, so be sure to check for new messages often.

Complete FAFSA

  • Priority Deadline is July 1.
  • The FAFSA is required to receive Moody's full-tuition grant. Complete and submit the FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov/. Please use school code 001727. International students with F-1 status are exempt from this requirement.
  • If you want to take out loans, please complete the Loan Agreement (MPN) and Entrance counseling (https://studentaid.gov/)

Housing Assignment

All unmarried students will automatically be assigned to a room on campus. If you would like to live with a certain individual, in a specific building, or on a particular floor, submit a housing preference request form here by May 15th. The Residence Life staff will do their best to honor each request; however, they cannot guarantee your requested space will be available. Applications for married housing on campus are also available.

June

Class Registration

  • As a new student, your academic advisor will register you for your first-semester classes in June.
  • If you wish, you may also register yourself for your first-semester schedule prior to June.
  • If you choose to register yourself, note that transcript evaluation is a thorough process that may not be completed until June. Therefore, as registration opens, it is recommended that you register for Moody classes that likely will not transfer (e.g. If you have taken an English Composition class, you should not enroll in College Writing). 
  • An Academic Advisor will notify you of any eligible transfer credits once your transcripts have been evaluated.

Complete Health Form

  • Due by July 15. 
  • The State of Illinois requires an HIPAA Privacy Form acknowledgment and a physical examination (including immunization history and TB test). These must be submitted on Moody's official form with each page signed by your doctor.

Complete PCM Form

  • Due: June 1st
  • Each of our Undergraduate students participates in a Practical Christian Ministry (PCM) every semester at Moody. The PCM department will enroll you in a PCM based on the input you provide in the PCM New Student Form regarding your interests and abilities. You must complete this form online by June 1st.

Pay your Bill

Moody has two options for paying your bill, which must be completed in order to move into the residence hall and/or begin classes for the semester.

Paying in Full

  • Payment is due in full by August 1.
  • Navigate to your Nelnet portal to pay with a bank account, Visa, MasterCard or Discover. Please note: payments made by credit/debit card will incur a 2.75% service fee.

Moody Payment Plan

  • You may enroll in the Moody Payment Plan through your Nelnet portal. 
  • A $60 non-refundable enrollment fee (bank account, debit, or credit card) will be charged per semester.
  • A down payment is required upon enrollment and is processed immediately.

Send ID Badge Picture

All students are required to have an ID badge while on Moody's campus. The badge is how you are identified as well as how you access all buildings on campus. By sending this photo in before your arrival, you will be able to pick up your ID badge and avoid lines at move-in day. This ID photo will also be used for your public transportation card.

July

Health Insurance

  • All Chicago Campus undergraduate students are automatically enrolled in Moody's health insurance plan. If you are already covered by another insurance plan, you may submit an insurance waiver form online by August 1st. 
  • If you are an international student (with F-1 Visa status) you are required to have Moody's health insurance for yourself and any spouse/child(ren) that live with you.

Submit Final Transcripts

Students must submit their final transcripts (high school, college, CLEP, and AP) after all grades have been posted. Request official transcripts to be sent directly to the Admissions office. Transfer credit evaluations will not be complete until final transcripts are submitted.

Student Life Guide & Student Life Agreement

All students are required to read the current Student Life Guide (SLG) each year and then to sign the Student Life Agreement (SLA). All new students are required to read the 2019-2020* SLG and sign the SLA by move-in day on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019. 

Please complete the following instructions by 8 AM on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019:

The Student Life Guide (SLG) is located on the my.moody.edu portal:

  1. Log on to my.moody.edu using your username and password. 
  2. Click on the Chicago Campus tab. 
  3. Click on Student Handbook.
  4. Choose the 2019-2020 Chicago Undergraduate SLG.

Once you have read the SLG in its entirety, please sign the Student Life Agreement:

  1. Log on to my.moody.edu using your username and password. 
  2. Click on the Chicago Campus tab. 
  3. Click on Student Handbook.
  4. Choose Chicago Undergraduate Student Life Agreement, read it, and sign it.

*Note: The 2019-2020 SLG will be posted online by early July. Please wait to accomplish this task until you can read the 2019-2020 SLG. You will not be able to electronically sign the Student Life Agreement until the 2019-2020 SLG has been posted.

August

New Student Orientation

Orientation is a requirement for all incoming students. New Student Orientation will be August 10-15, 2020. We require students to clear their schedules for these days in order to complete the requirements necessary to pass Orientation.

Any exceptions must be approved by the Associate Dean of Students, Rachel Puente. If you wish to discuss any special circumstances regarding your attendance at Orientation, please contact her at rachel.puente@moody.edu or (312) 329-4106.

International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation is required for all new international students in addition to the required New Student Orientation. Move-in day is Monday, August 10th. Please schedule your flights to arrive on this day as airport pick-up will only be provided to students who arrive on August 10th. International Student Orientation will be held Monday, August 10th - Wednesday, August 12th with the mandatory New Student Orientation occurring the rest of the week as mentioned above. Please contact iso@moody.edu if you have any questions.
