Chicago Graduate New Student Checklist

 

Congratulations on being accepted to Moody Theological Seminary's Chicago campus! The checklist below is designed to help you prepare for your arrival in Chicago. It will outline steps that must be taken before you arrive and point out additional options. If you have any questions, please contact Moody Central at (312) 329-2020 or 2020@moody.edu.

Required before arriving on campus

Register for Classes

It is recommended that you register for classes shortly after you matriculate. However, fall registration will not be available prior to May 1st. Click here for registration instructions.

Complete Health Forms

  • All MTS students taking 6 or more credits must complete health forms
  • Completed forms are due by January 1st for Spring Semester students and July 15th for Fall Semester students.
  • The State of Illinois requires a HIPAA Privacy Form a copy of your immunization records, and a TB test. These must be submitted on Moody's official form with each page signed by your doctor.

Submit Final Transcripts

Students must submit their final transcripts after all grades have been posted. Request official transcripts to be sent directly to the Admissions office.

Health Insurance

Look at the listed options below and follow what applies to your situation:

  • I am living on campus.
    You will be automatically charged for the Individual Insurance Plan. 
  • I will be living on campus and already have valid health insurance.
    Fill out the Insurance Waiver Form by August 1 for Fall and December 19 for Spring. Attach a copy of the front and back of your insurance card to the waiver form.
  • I am an international student with F-1 status. 
    You will be automatically charged for the individual Insurance Plan (and additional premiums if you have dependents—please fill out Insurance Enrollment Form for dependents). 
  • I will be living off-campus, taking at least 6 credit hours, and would like Moody insurance.

Read the MTS Handbook

All MTS students are responsible to read the MTS Student Handbook, found on the my.moody portal, in its entirety. All students are responsible for the policies and guidelines found in the handbook. 

Suggested before arriving to campus

Send ID Badge Picture

All students are required to wear an ID badge while on Moody's campus. This ID Badge is used for identification purposes and electronic door access in all buildings. The ID badge contains a photo which is posted in the Online Directory with your email address to be available to the Moody community.

Please submit a passport-style photo to access@moody.edu. ID photos must meet the following requirements:

  • Recent color photo 
  • Neutral solid color/blank background (Tip: You can use a sheet as a background) 
  • Bright, even lighting (Avoid shadows on your face) 
  • Centered, frontal view of full face – no profile 
  • Cropped from just above the top of the head to the collarbone 
  • Eyes open and visible (wear prescription glasses if you normally do so)

Smiling is encouraged for these photos. No one else may be in the photo. Photos must not be edited or modified. Senior pictures, school photos, or photos with hats, sunglasses and/or other props will not be accepted. You will be notified if the photo isn't approved. 

Apply for On Campus Housing

There is a limited amount of single and married/family graduate housing available. If you are interested, please email housing@moody.edu.

Request a Parking Permit

All vehicles parked on campus are required to have a parking permit. There is a charge per semester for on-campus and commuter students to obtain a permit. A variety of parking permits are available to accommodate different class schedules.

All vehicles must be registered with the Public Safety Office, located in the basement of Crowell Hall. Students will be emailed before the beginning of the semester with instructions for purchasing a parking permit. You may contact the Public Safety Office at parking@moody.edu, or 312-329-4358. The Public Safety Office is open Mon. through Friday from 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m (Central Time, closes at 3:30 on Fridays).

On- and Off-Campus part-time jobs can be accessed through the My.Moody Student Portal (https://my.moody.edu). After logging in, you will see a link for job listings on the Chicago tab.
